Meet
angelina + Louis

Two lifelong animal lovers, living together with two cats — Dolly & Igor — on the Plateau in Montreal since 2016. Angelina’s history includes work in a dog kennel in Toronto, volunteering at the SPCA, and an early dive into the career of dog walking at age 12. Louis became dedicated to dog care and training when he raised a rescued Boston Terrier prior to moving to Montreal. The duo’s passion for pets converged in the creation of MTL Pet Care.

Our spacious, ground floor apartment on the Plateau in Montreal serves as the perfect pad for your pooch to pass the time while you are away. Pets are always allowed on the furniture, and are welcome to spend the night sleeping on the bed. We’ve got a toy box full of durable chew toys, and a cupboard well stocked with healthy dog treats. In the event that a dog does not get along well with cats, the layout of our place allows us to separate them while maintaining plenty of personal space for all. The fenced backyard makes for easy access to the outdoors between walks — and we do like to take some pretty epic walks (often up to 10km per day)! We’ve got a quiet, tree-lined street out the front door, and a ruelle verte out the back gate. There are 4 dog parks in the vicinity of our home, as well as plenty of alleyways and green spaces for our canine visitors to explore.

  • We typically don’t introduce the cats to a new dog on the first night. There’s a door right in the centre of our apartment that we can close to give the kitchen and office to the cats, and let the dog roam free in the bedrooms and living room. On day two, we usually try a careful introduction to gauge the dog’s comfort with Dolly and Igor. If everything seems ok, we let them hang out together in the common areas of the apartment, but dogs and cats are never left unattended while they are spending time together in our home.

  • With both of us working primarily from home, your dog will spend very little time along while under our care. However, sometimes we do need to go out and cannot always bring the dog we are boarding along. In cases like this, we like to confine the dog to one large, comfortable room with nothing dangerous that she can get into. We provide 2-3 favourite toys, a bully stick or dental treat, and a few more healthy treats packed into a puzzle which will keep your dog occupied while we are out. Before we leave, we put on some relaxing music, or play DogTV videos to make your dog feel less alone. Your dog will have a walk before and after being left alone for any period of time.

  • Not at all! We have experience giving liquid medication via syringe, giving pills via pill pockets (or hidden in food), and even giving insulin shots to diabetic pets. Whatever your dog needs, we can handle it!

  • Please bring your dog’s food, his harness and/or collar, and some of his favourite things to help him settle in — toys and blankets that smell like him, maybe a bed if he uses one. Bring his bowls if they are portable (if not, we have extras!) If it’s wintertime, bring a coat and boots if you dog has some.
We have plenty of durable dog toys on hand, plenty of cozy spots for dogs to nap, and a stockpile of healthy treats — so don’t worry about bringing things like that, unless your dog is picky!

  • If your dog does well at the dog park, we will happily bring her out to play with some new doggy friends — with 4 dog parks in the vicinity of our home, we’ve got options!
However, if your dog cannot handle other dogs, or the chaos of the dog park, we are also happy to take your dog on quiet solo walks only.

  • We also have experience in boarding cats, and even a guinea pig — if you have another pet that you would like to board with us, reach out and we can work out the details!

  • No we are not. We have an interest in dog behaviour and psychology, and have been working with online courses and tutorials to learn more. We are passionate about working on new commands and practicing tricks with the dogs in our care, and plan to eventually obtain certification in dog training, but we’re not there yet!

  • Of course! We don’t discriminate, and welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes to stay with us. We stand against breed specific legislation, and believe there are no “bad dogs.”

  • To ease your mind, we can do a trial run. Bring your dog over for a period of 1-3 hours prior to your trip, and we will see if we mesh well with your dog, and if your dog can get comfortable in our home.
